Diane said that her power must have gone off last night because her alarm did not go off this morning. This reminded us of the episode where Elaine had an Olympic runner staying with her. Years ago, he had overslept and missed his race because he didn't realize that there was a separate knob for the radio alarm. "Why separate knob?! Why separate knob?!"

Jan. 30, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #29

Who knew meetings about software could bring up so many Seinfeld references. Well, today, here's another one. We had a conference call with one of the developers. His name is Rohit Gupta. I have heard his name many times, but have never met or seen him. As he began talking, it was clear that my suspicions were correct that he did in fact have a very thick accent. His accent made him sound exactly like Babu Bhatt, who was Pakistani. Babu opened a restaurant across the street from Jerry. No one visited and Jerry tried to give him ideas for how to get customers. In a later episode, Babu is deported when he doesn't get his immigration renewal forms (they had been misdelievered to Jerry who was on vacation). He also reappears in the series finale as he is put on the stand as a character witness against Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer.

Here is just one clip of Babu (keep in mind, although the accent is similar, Rohit was not near as perky as Babu).

At lunch, Jeannie had brought in a chocolate cake that she had made. It had chocolate chips on top. I was having a hard time keeping the chips on my fork..they kept rolling off. So I decided to stab them with my fork. Jess laughed at me and said she had never seen anyone stab their chocolate chips one at a time like that. She guessed it was like eating peas one at a time. Of course this is a reference to when Jerry broke up with a woman because she ate her peas one at a time.

Jerry explaining to George why he broke up with her:

"Well, you know, we were having dinner the other night, and she's got this strangest habit. She eats her peas one at a time. You've never seen anything like it. It takes her an hour to finish them. I mean, we've had dinner other times. I've seen her eat Corn Niblets...but she scooped them."

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a clip with the above quote...all I could find was Jerry at dinner with the woman, while she's eating her peas.

This just made my day today...

Alyssa said that she had just placed an order for 12 aluminum poles for the store. Diane said "save one for us for Festivus!" We've been talking about getting one for a couple of years :)

This clip explains all of the key features of Festivus, as well as the description of the pole (which takes the place of a Christmas tree).

A Twitter Encounter With John Lehr

John Lehr (Twitter Profile)
I've recently gotten back into Twitter. I had started about a year ago as just a way to follow some celebrities. For some reason, I kind of lost interest and didn't really check my Twitter feed very often. But a few weeks ago, I started up again. Part of the reason I didn't do any personal tweeting of my own was that I didn't really know any friends who did, so not having any followers, made it pretty pointless for me to post anything, so I just stuck to Facebook. Eventually, I found a couple of friends who were also on Twitter and began interacting with them some. In the process, I began following quite a few more celebrities.

That leads me to the reason for this post. I found the comedian, John Lehr, whom I loved in the brief show 10 Items Or Less. The entire show was improv, which to me seems absolutely remarkable. Soon after following him, I got a follow request from him! My first celebrity follow request! How cool! For someone like my friend Heather, that type of thing seems to be a fairly regular occurrence, but for me it is very rare!

My excited post on Facebook about my request

My friend Heather posted on Facebook that, on a dare, she went through the line at Chipotle, ordering like in the Soup Nazi episode (including the sidestep). Of course, this by itself is funny enough. But what's strange is that the very next day, there was a photo (see below) posted by Seinfeld's Facebook page promoting that episode.

Photo: "No soup for you!" The Soup Nazi is on Crackle. http://bit.ly/_Seinfeld

Music Ironicness: Josh Kelley - Two Cups Of Coffee

Today, Shonda was saying that she really needed some coffee. Just after she said that, the song that was playing on my Google Play random playlist was Josh Kelley's "Two Cups of Coffee". So weird!

I don't like or drink coffee, but I do love this song!

Diane and I were talking about how today was the perfect kind of cold day for something warm to eat. She had only brought a couple small things for lunch and was still hungry. I said that soup sounded good. Of course, she said "soup is not a meal!". And I of course, replied "if you crumble crackers in it...'crackers in a bowl, now that could be considered a meal.'"

This is a reference to when Kenny Banya gave Jerry an Armani suit. In return, he convinced Jerry to buy him a meal. When they were at the restaurant, Banya decided to just get soup and then complained that Jerry didn't buy him a meal. Jerry and Elaine then discussed when soup was considered a meal. Elaine said that if you crumble crackers in it, "crackers in a bowl, that could be considered a meal." (Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video clip that showed Elaine and Jerry's conversation. The clip below just shows the Banya parts.

Amy is going to be a grandma, and we were discussing what she would want her grandchild to call her. We all like "Nana". We then needed to come up with something for her husband. I suggested "Papa" first, and I was going to say "Poppy", but Shonda beat me to it. Whenever I hear "Poppie", I always think of Poppie from Seinfeld....as in "Poppie peed on my sofa!"

In our software meeting today, there was discussion about financial info and how it would come through in the new software. Apparently, if done a certain way, there would be some amounts that would not be balanced and the difference would always stay on the account. A fellow Seinfeld lover commented "Can't you just write it off? I don't know what that means, but that's what they do. They just write it off." I could hardly contain my laughter. I knew EXACTLY what she was referring to.

The scene below is Kramer explaining to Jerry what his plans were to get him some money for his broken stereo. He planned to break the stereo and claim it was damaged in shipping. They would then just "write it off."

In my 3 hour software meeting today, we had a long discussion that included a lot of "importing" and "exporting" talk. This reminded me of George's story to Susan about Elaine's fake boyfriend who was an importer/exporter. I wish I could have found a video for this one :(

In the car with Mom today, and we pass a car pulled off the side of the road. She laughed and said that there was a sticker on the back that said Vandevere, but she thought it said Vandelay. Ha! My Seinfeld references are rubbing off on her!

This is a hilarious video about the fictitious "Vandelay Industries".

Jan. 18, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #16

This morning at work, I went to put my lunch in the refrigerator. When I opened the refrigerator door, there was this bright red light. Someone had some food in a red container that was near the lightbulb and it was projecting red light. This reminded me of the big red chicken sign of Kenny Roger's that filled Kramer's apartment. And when he opened the door and was thrusted backward by the red light (in the video below at around 2:37).

Shonda said her brother posted a video of her little nephew dancing on Facebook. She then proceeded to demonstrate how he was dancing and how he threw in these little kicks. I immediately thought of Elaine dancing, appropriately in the episode called "The Little Kicks".

At lunch, Jess was looking at a magazine and was looking at a pasta recipe that called for cinnamon. The table commented on how ironic of an ingredient that was to put in pasta. This made me think of Jerry explaining to Elaine that "cinnamon takes a backseat to no babka". And how cinnamon should be a condiment on the table, because everyone loves cinnamon and when you ask what makes something so good, the answer is always "cinnamon. cinnamon."

At lunch, we were also browsing through a Farmer's Almanac. Allen was reading off the forecast for January. I never realized how wordy and poetic this Almanac is. It reminded me of reading through the J. Peterman catalog.

I ran out of room on my desk for a couple of notebooks, so I placed them on top of my computer. Unfortunately, they didn't stay and went tumbling everywhere. Diane told me to settle down and then she said that reminded her of Seinfeld. The one where the doctor tells Leo to settle down, and then writes in his chart. It's not a real close relation, but it came up nonetheless.

Jan. 17, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #14
I heard Diane referencing Seinfeld as she was coming out of a meeting. I noticed that she was referencing an episode that I had just referenced a few days ago. In her case, it was because Shelley had found the back of Alison's earing on the floor. Mine was the eye exam when renewing your driver's license. This was reference #11 on Jan. 13.

Jan. 17, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #15
On American Idol, one of the "singers" sang "Downtown". Every time I hear this song, I of course think of Seinfeld. George was working on a special project for the Yankees. He did not hear the instructions for this project and when he asked questions about it, he was told that he would find the answers "downtown". He and Jerry assumed that it was a riddle and the answers would be found in the song "Downtown".

Jan. 14, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #12

This afternoon my co-worker Amy realized that she had been looking at Jan. 7th instead of today's date, the 14th...all day. I told her, the calendar has one flaw: you have to look at the right date for it to be helpful. This made me think of when Jerry's apartment was robbed. Kramer had been in the apartment and left to go back to his apartment, leaving the door open. Jerry explained that he had spent a lot of money on a fancy, secure lock. And it's only flaw is that "the door MUST BE CLOSED!"

Mom and I were talking about the eye exam that they make you do when you go to renew your driver's license. The last 2 times I have gone, I have had the hardest time reading the letters and numbers. So much so that I've almost failed both times! By sheer luck and good guessing, I have been able to squeak by. This guessing involved a lot of squinting. This made me think of the episode where Jerry and George debate George's squinting abilities. George thinks he is a phenomenal squinter because he once squinted his way down a windy mountain road and spotted raccoons along the way! He then squints and sees a dime on the floor in Jerry's apartment. Jerry tells George that what he thought were raccoons were actually mailboxes and he didn't have the heart to tell him.

This clip isn't the exact one I was looking for, but it is the same episode. Jerry references him spotting the dime, though, as George mistakes an onion for an apple.

Jan. 11, 2013: Seinfeld References #6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

House-warming party at Diane's house tonight...plenty of Seinfeld references to be had. Not on purpose, we promise!

#6: BO (yes, that's body odor)
Don't ask me how the discussion started about smelly people going into places of business (because I have no idea). Diane said that often smelly people come through her check-out line, and I asked her if the o goes when the b leaves, and she said "no". But this reference obviously is to Jerry's smelly car. The valet parked the car and his BO took over the car. His b (body) left the car, but the o (odor) remained and then attached itself to anyone and anything in the car.

#7: "Poppy peed on my sofa!"
Rachel spilled some of her coffee on her pants and the couch. Diane said it wasn't a big deal. I suggested turning the cushion over. This is what George did with Jerry's old couch that Poppy peed on.

#8: "Can you spare a square?"
Again, don't ask how this discussion started, but Diane's mom told a story of a visit to the store. She went in to use the restroom and there was no toilet paper. She luckily had a napkin in her coat. Upon leaving, the woman in the next stall said she didn't have any toilet paper either. Of course, this prompted the "can you spare a square?" from when Elaine was in a similar situation. Only in this case, the woman in the next stall said that she didn't have a square to spare. Elaine then pulls the same trick on the woman later as payback.

#9: "It's all pipes!"
We were talking about training cats and dogs to use the toilet. Rachel said that when her dog was small, he used to pee in the shower. This immediately made me think of when George peed in the shower at the gym and someone turned him in. He felt he did nothing wrong because it all goes the same place, "it's all pipes!"

#10: "You gotta see the baby!"
Diane's mom was talking about a child that was not very cute. This reminded us of the ugly baby episode, where Jerry's friend kept begging them to come see their baby. Once they finally did, they found the baby to be very ugly.

Seinfeld Reference #5

Jan. 11, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #5

Another day, another Seinfeld reference.

Today the new cast of Survivor was announced, so naturally my friends and I were quick to discuss on Facebook. This discussion turned into a Seinfeld reference, naturally. How might this happen, one might wonder. Well...

One of the returning players, Phillip Sheppard, has been commonly seen as a delusional character, and everyone always questions whether what he is saying is actually true. His previous occupation (he says) was that of an undercover agent. No one, including host, Jeff Probst himself, really believed him (due to his craziness). Upon looking at his current biography, it states that he is the CEO of a company called "Enter Software Sales". This sounded totally bogus to me, so I Googled it. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, I found nothing except links to articles about the upcoming season of Survivor in which this detail shows up.OK, so with that detail, my friend Heather commented with "Phillip Vandelay?" [sic] and "Kramerica Industries?".

For those who know Seinfeld, you know that Vandelay is the fake last name that George uses often. He also said that Vandelay Industries is a place where he was trying to get hired. So, you can now see the connection :)

A second connection, was made with "Kramerica Industries". This was the fake company created by Kramer...another obvious comparison to Seinfeld.

Here is a snapshot of the conversation:

Since there are several times that George uses Vandelay, here is the first time he used it (Season 1, Episode 2):

The second part of this reference is Kramerica Industries:

Music Ironicness--My Definition

Music fills my life. I listen to it ALL the time. It wakes me up in the morning via the alarm on my phone. I listen to it in the car. I listen to it in the shower. I listen to it when I'm cleaning or baking. I listen to it all day on my computer at work. Because so much of my day is filled with music, there are bound to be times where the music I'm listening to reflects what's going on around me. It's kind of freaky when it happens, but it's also pretty cool. I've already had times where I'm typing on the computer and I type the EXACT word that was being sung...at the EXACT SAME TIME!

I like to call these strange occurrences "music ironicness". I thought it would be fun to do a post when these strange things happen.

Stay tuned for these little pieces of randomness....

Driving home tonight on the highway, a truck in the lane to my left began to drift over the line and into my lane, just in front of me. It reminded me of the episode where Kramer adopts a section of the highway and paints over the center lines, creating wide lanes. Elaine drives on the road later in the episodes and she swerves back and forth saying "Hey, look at this, wide lanes...this is so luxurious". I wanted to tell this person that we weren't driving on a "4-lane comfort cruise" (as Kramer called it).

At lunch, Shonda was eating a grapefruit, and she apologized for any squirting. Across the table, Jeannie joked that she felt a squirt. Of course, I wanted to say "Pulp can move, baby!"...but alas, no one at the table would have understood. (Of course, I'm referencing when George was squirted with a grapefruit and it made him start randomly blinking. He claimed there was a piece of pulp in there.)

Diane commented on the broken handle on the warehouse door. The handle seemed to be just dangling there. In explaining what it looked like, her hand made a gesture that resembled that of what one might do to refer to a gay person. That then reminded me of Jerry's stand-up routine that questioned why this particular hand motion was used. He says that the stereotype of some gay people is that they are neat, so he suggests that one should make a motion of a sweeper, accompanied by the "brrrrr" vacuum noise.

Seinfeld Reference #1

Being a huge Seinfeld fan is an understatement. Anyone who knows me well, knows I can quote every episode with amazing accuracy. As a result, and because this show about nothing really does reflect all aspects of life, it is inevitable that situations will remind me (and many of my Seinfeld-loving friends) of a Seinfeld episode.

I thought it might be fun to document these funny references, and see just how many we have in a year :)
So, yesterday Jan. 3 was the first.

#1:
Although we referenced about 5 different episodes in this Facebook exchange, I'm going to just count this as 1. It all started from a discussion about creating an indoor Hillbilly Golf set.

Songs for 2013: A New Year's Resolution

It's no secret that I love music. My personal mp3 collection is quite extensive...7,870 songs to be exact (and still growing). You may have seen a post I did a long time ago: "About A Girl: My Life In Song Titles". Um, yeah...I live music. Ha! That was actually a typo. I meant to say "love"! But yes, I "live" music too!

Every day--in the car, at work, doing chores, in the shower...I listen to music. I love my job, but music makes it that much more enjoyable. I usually use Google Play to shuffle my entire music collection because every day I can hear something different, and it's always something I like. Occasionally, I will listen to Pandora to discover new music...also fun!

A lot of times I find myself thinking, "oh I love this song, I need to share it on Facebook!" But, I usually forget. So, today I had made myself a note (I know, dorky!). Then it got me thinking..."wouldn't it be cool to share a song or 2 every day?" Today is January 3, why not make this my New Year's Resolution? Is it too late? I don't think so :) I never make a resolution, but this is going to be a fun one for me to keep. And to prove that I can actually post something for every day, I'll pick a song for Jan. 1 and 2, which I missed.

Music helps put me in a better mood, and many times, a song pops up randomly that either matches how I'm feeling or is ironic to a situation that just happened or reminds me of a distant memory. No matter what, it can always put me in a better mood. Maybe, my song picks can do the same for someone else.
Some days I may have a lot to say about my song choice(s), and some days I might just pick the song that I loved the most that day.

Life is a song...enjoy!
