TV Ironicness

It happened again...something way too weird to be coincidental. Does this kind of thing happen to anyone else? So, last night, 2 shows that I watched both featured an on-air radio program in which a guest was being interviewed. Strange? Yes...but that's not where this coincidence ends! Both interviewees had stage fright and got all nervous as soon as the program started. And that's still not all! The person being interviewed was interrupted by someone pressing a button to make a farting sound! Seriously! WHAT are the odds?!

OK, so the 2 shows? The first one was the newest episode of Chicago Fire. Brian was on a local radio program to promote their new bar. He was so nervous he couldn't remember the name of the bar. As a result, the hosts had some fun with him and every time he tried to say the name of the bar, they made the farting noise. Later, I was watching Parks and Recreation on Netflix. This is NOT a current show, in fact the episode I watched was from 2011. In the season 3 episode, Ben was on a radio show to promote the Harvest Fest. Both on the radio show and on TV he freezes up when he is live. And again, on the radio show, it involved the farting noise during his interview.

Totally crazy, right?! It's not just me, right?! I could have watched that Parks and Rec episode any time and it just so happens it's immediately after the other instance.

TV Ironicness

So today, I'm catching up on Big Brother Canada 4, and Nikki and Joel are having a fake wedding - officiated by none other than Marsha the Moose, of course. As the nuptials begin, Marsha starts out with the classic "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...". Meanwhile, I'm scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, and there's an article about Prince. The summary of the post started out with one of Prince's lyrics: "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today". WHAT are the odds?!?!

TV Ironicness-The Bachelor and The Sound of Music

So I'm watching The Sound of Music and working on my blog post for The Bachelor. I was searching online for a picture of Ben. It's at this time when they are singing the "sixteen going on seventeen" song. It's the sing-a-long version so the words are on the screen. I didn't realize they sang about roses and also said the word "bachelor". So ironic!

It's a little hard to see, but the words on the TV screen are "Innocent as a rose"

"Bachelor brandies, drinkers of brandies"

Mop Dog

How weird is this? On Facebook, I see this picture of this dog, that is so huge and his hair makes him look like a giant mop. My friend Heather joked that it is something she might see in Lehman's. I joked "Where, in the mop section?"

No sooner had I typed that response, when on a commercial break, there was this Dr. Pepper commercial...with a dog that looks like a mop...sitting in front of a  store that had mops in the window! What are the chances?

In the picture, you can see my computer screen with the picture of the dog, and on my TV screen, I have it paused with the do and the mop in the window.

So ironic!

Ironicness

I'm a little behind on recounting all of the strange, ironic occurrences that happen to me...but I've been keeping a list of all the ones that have happened to me in the last couple months, so here we go...

1. I was watching Who Do You Think You Are with Valerie Bertinelli. At the same moment that she mentioned one of her distant relative's name of "Jacob", I was typing the name "Jacob" into a training document I was working on!

2. I was listening to Fefe Dobson's "Bye Bye Boyfriend"

3. I was working on a training document for handling Amazon feedback, when on the Tonight Show, Jimmy did a segment with his suggestion box and said he loves getting feedback from the viewers.

4. I was watching the show Extant, and one of the characters said the word "family" at the same time I was looking at a post on Facebook from Alex & Sierra, which was a photo with the title "family".

5. I was listening to the song "Slow Motion" by Third Eye Blind, when my computer started going extremely slow.

TV Ironicness: Hugh Jackman's Entrace on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

I always DVR The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for a couple reasons:
1) I can't stay up that late (on a regular basis)
2) It's too funny to miss

So, I always watch all 5 episodes from the week on Saturdays and Sundays, since I have way too many other shows to watch through the week. So, today, I'm doing just that. While watching, I'm also checking my Twitter feed, and I see a tweet from 8 minutes ago, from the Tonight Show. It was featuring Hugh Jackman's entrance. Literally, at the same time I'm looking at this GIF, I'm watching Jimmy introduce Hugh Jackman, and he comes hopping out from behind the curtain. Seriously...it was at exactly the same time! This episode aired 3 days ago, what are the odds the show would tweet that, and I would be watching the exact same thing at the exact same time. It blows my mind!!!

Music/TV Ironicness: Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Monday night on Dancing With The Stars, Danica and Val danced to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". This morning, I was listening to Pandora. I was listening to my Boy Band station, and what song comes on? Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"! Why? That is so crazy! That's such an old song, and I don't see a lot of similarities between that song and the other boy band songs I've favorited on that station. I'm not sure why Pandora picked that song. So crazy!

TV Ironicness

What are the odds?

Yesterday, I was reading a blog written by one of my friends, and it's called "Work in Progress". As I was reading the blog, I was also watching American Idol. Sam Woolf had just performed, and Harry Connick, Jr. was giving his critique, and he said that Sam was still a "work in progress". Whoa! So weird!

TV Ironicness

Normally, when something really ironic happens, it is music-related. I like to call it "music ironicness". It's when I'm listening to a song, and either it totally relates to something that just happened, or maybe a word in the song was just said out loud, or I read it at the same time it was sung in the song, etc. Well today, something ironic happened, TV-wise.

For my treadmill walk today, I watched the next episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer in my queue on Netflix. That episode was the Season 5, episode 15 called "I Was Made To Love". In that episode, Buffy's mom, Joyce dies. So what's ironic, you ask? Well, I was catching up on my TV blogs that I like to read daily, and in TV Guide's "Ask Matt" column, the very first question included a reference to this exact episode of Buffy! Keep in mind, this episode originally aired in 2001...it's 13 years old! How totally ironic, for this show to be referenced...let alone the EXACT episode that I literally just watched 2 hours ago! Whoa!

This was the reference:

Question: I'm sure you have tons of letters in your mailbag about the "twist" on The Good Wife. For once, this was not over-hyped at all. I've always stood by the idea that the creators of shows are artists who have the right to do whatever they want with their characters, and we should be more angry with gratuitous plot twists or inconsistent character development than things that just make us sad. It is a "melodrama," after all, and entertainment does not mean that you will be made happy all the time. That said, I have had to rein myself in about Will's death, which might rank as the most upsetting TV death in my long history of TV watching. Unlike, say, the death of Joyce Summers on Buffy, Will and Alicia have seemed integral to the plot trajectory of the show, and now I feel like a main source of my pleasure is gone.
