MNQS #1 Request Shout Out!

One of the greatest and coolest things to ever happen to me!

Some background information...

MNQS stands for Monday Night Quancert Series. A musician named J.R. Moore started a Facebook live series in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Musicians could no longer perform live in front of crowds, so, while stuck at home, many decided to make the most of it and connect with fans by doing Facebook live events. J.R. started doing them every Monday night and one of his followers coined the term "Quancert" meaning quarantine concert. It stuck.

I found J.R. when he posted the links to his band's Facebook page. His band was Ingram Hill, which I loved (and still do!). I didn't know the individual members until this time. Little did I know that he is one of the funniest, coolest, most down-to-earth human beings. Unbeknownst to me, he has somewhat of a solo career as well another band known as Allen, Mack, Myers and Moore. Once I found his quancerts, I've watched every one since.

He does some of his own songs, his bands' songs, as well as so many covers. I love it all! He's extremely talented. You can tell he has such a good time performing for us, otherwise he wouldn't have continued them for as long as he has. He cracks himself up often, but the live chat can really get him going as well. Many have dubbed themselves "The Jerks" because there's a lot of good-natured ribbing, but it's all in good fun.

One thing he gets accused of is never granting requests. While they are few and far between, it does happen. That's where the story of the coolest things to happen to me begins. He put out a post a few days ahead of his next MNQS saying he was going to do a show of ALL REQUESTS! I thought I would put in my suggestions, even though I was sure there was no chance of him actually picking any of them, no matter how good they were because I'm invisible. He would "talk" to members in the chat, but never addressed anything I ever said. If you know me, you know it is VERY difficult for me to pick a favorite song. I'm always afraid I'm going to forget something really good. It's so hard to rank one better than another. So, I ended up sending like 30 songs!

The night of the All Request night came and I was so sure that in the 13 or 14 songs he chose, that there just wouldn't have been room for anything I suggested. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong! He got about halfway through and started to announce the next song. He said he couldn't believe it had taken him so long to play this song, but he loved it. Before he knew it, he said it was one of MY songs!!!! He joked that I "came in hot" with so many suggestions! At this point, I think I blacked out...and thank goodness you can go back and watch these videos because I didn't hear anything he said after that. My heart was beating so fast and my face was burning red with excitement/embarrassment. But he didn't stop there!!! He said he loved all my choices and that they weren't like all of the really common ones he gets all the time like "Free Bird", "Jesse's Girl," and "Brown Eyed Girl". My work had paid off! I know we have very similar song taste (aside from the Country) because he picks so many songs I like to cover. I specifically picked ones that I thought he would sound amazing on and weren't ones he's ever done before. He said when he got to this song, he knew this was the one. I was DYING to know which song it was! And he still wasn't done with the compliments...he said "Lori Showalter, you won the night!" OMG! I could have just died! And, I still didn't know which song it was! When he FINALLY got to playing it, I could not have been more shocked! It would not have been my guess, the way he went on about it. I'm actually shocked he even knew the song!

It was "Cough Syrup" by Young the Giant!!!

He sang it so well, and he was so totally himself through the whole performance at the end, which makes me so happy to have it recorded and to go back and watch it. He even did the thing where he stops at the end and then kind of stares at the camera, and then does a final strum on the guitar. He gave me another shoutout for the great song choice and laughed at everyone who commented that they were like chopped liver with their requests. He said he was sorry to those who felt a little "booty hurt" about their requests. He said not all of their song suggestions were crap, just some of them. He still wasn't done and gave me yet another shoutout! I commented thanking him for choosing my song and how I usually go unnoticed and invisible. He saw it and specifically said I wasn't invisible and was glad I enjoyed his performance. And if you thought he was done, he wasn't! He AGAIN said how great my song list was and said it was a little intimidating, but it was a good list! OMG! I died. When stuff like that never happens to you, you have no idea just how exhilarating and exciting it is when it finally does happen!

I recorded the whole segment on my phone because I wanted to be able to watch it whenever I wanted and didn't want it to ever disappear. I can't tell you how many times I listened to it, I couldn't get enough of it.

Hayden Moss or Hayden Voss?

During the Big Brother premiere, I of course was following all of the BB alumni on Twitter. One of my favs, as you know, is Hayden from BB12 and Survivor. He's usually really good about replying to tweets. He sent out a tweet about one of the contestants this season, whose name is very similar to his. His full name is "Hayden Moss". One of the contestants' names is "Hayden Voss". Whoa!

He tweeted: "This dudes name is Hayden Voss? Lol...that's gotta nice ring to it!"

I replied and he favorited it and sent a reply back:

I Made it on the RealitySteve Website!

For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge reality TV fan. The good kind of reality TV: the competition style NOT the "Kardashian" or "Housewives" style. My favorites are Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, American Idol, The Voice, Dancing With The Stars....I could go on but I'll stop there. I also love The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. For most shows, I love the suspense and avoid spoiler websites. However, when it comes to The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, I actually kind of like knowing who the lead ends up with and who gets eliminated when. For the inside scoop, I rely on RealitySteve. He somehow manages to get all the dirty details and spoils the show pretty consistently every season, pretty soon after they end filming it.

One of the features of RealitySteve's blog/website is a weekly "Reader Emails" post, where he posts emails he gets along with his response. Normally, in any situation, on any site, I'm a reader only. I don't engage on message boards or comment sections. Really, the main reason is that there are a lot of crazies out there, and arguing is a waste of time. I share all my thoughts on my Reality Bites blog, and talk about the shows with all my friends, so I don't need to do it with strangers. However, last week, I made an exception. Something on The Bachelorette caught my attention, and I just had to email RealitySteve with my observation. I first watched the clip a couple times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. Because if you're wrong, or make a stupid observation...you will be made fun of publicly on his website. I didn't want to be one of those people. I was pretty sure what I had was worth sharing, and something that not everyone might know or have caught, so I thought I'd take a chance.

So, I'm watching the very first episode of the season, where Andi, our Bachelorette is meeting her 25 guys. Each guy has a limited amount of time to make a lasting impression, otherwise he could be cut on the first night. There's this guy Marquel. We know he's a little strange because he calls himself a "cookie connoisseur", and the love of his life right now is the cookie. He has somehow managed to bring a large tray with an assortment of cookies on it, and he would like to have a cookie tasting with Andi (instead of a wine tasting). He and Andi try several, and then he tells her he has a cookie he knows she will love. He digs to the bottom of the pile and pulls out...the black and white cookie. Immediately, I think of Seinfeld...of course...who wouldn't? And that's even before this happened....

Survivor Alum Twitter Interactions

Lots and lots of Survivor alums were active on Twitter for tonight's Survivor. I took the time to send a few tweets from my Reality Bites account, and the reaction was incredible!

I got Phillip Sheppard to follow me, I got Coach to Favorite and Retweet me, and I also got Skupin and Kat to Favorite a couple tweets. I just think that's too cool!

Twitter Interaction

Shawn Hantz (Russell Hantz's brother and Brandon Hantz's father) really wants to be on Survivor. He tweeted to Jeff Probst that he was ready to go, just say the word. I thought it would be fun to ask him which tribe he thinks he should be on. Next season's theme is Brains, Brawn and Beauties, and each of those is a tribe. I also asked him which tribe he thinks Probst would put him on. Here were his responses:

Twitter Interactions

Here are some of the most recent celebrity Twitter interactions I've had :)

Kat Edorsson was on Survivor and her boyfriend Hayden is still in the game right now. I'm not sure how she came upon my tweet of the latest recap, since she doesn't follow me. Oh well, still cool.

In the 2nd screen shot, you'll see Kat's boyfriend Hayden favorited one of my tweets. As did Michael Skupin, another former Survivor. The one at the top is from James Kenney, who was a contestant on this season's X Factor.

Another Survivor Follower: Erik Reichenbach

Happy birthday to me! I got another Survivor Twitter follower today for Reality Bites: Erik Reichenbach. Erik was on the last season of Fans vs. Favorites, as a Favorite, and he competed in the first season of Fans vs. Favorites as a Fan.

Twitter Follow and Favorites

Yesterday, one of my 2 favorite Survivors was eliminated: Aras Baskauskas. I sent him a couple messages in support of him, and he favorited them both :)

I also had Michael Skupin, a 2-time Survivor follow my Reality Bites Twitter account.

Twitter Followers: Jeff Gutt and Alex & Sierra

I'm so excited that not 1, but 2 X Factor acts are now following me!

Jeff Gutt was one of my favorites last season, and for some stupid reason, he didn't make it to the live shows. I don't know what they were thinking to cut him. He came back and he is killing it! I love everything he sings. It is so clear that he is in a completely different league than the competition (besides Alex & Sierra of course).

Alex & Sierra are a boyfriend/girlfriend singing duo. They are the cutest couple, and have amazing voices. They do covers of songs but change them up to suit their unique style. They are doing very well in the competition and seem to be one of Simon's favorites.

They started following me on both of my Twitter accounts: my personal account as well as my Reality Bites account.

Twitter Interaction: Hayden Moss

I'm so excited! I got a reply from Hayden Moss! He's one of my favorite Big Brother winners (season 12). He's also on this season of Survivor. Tonight, his quote from the episode was used as the title of the episode...quite an honor! It was "One Armed Man and 3 Moms", referring to their devastating defeat to a much less physical team. After I posted about it on Twitter (from my Reality Bites account), he replied!

Big Brother Twitter Interactions

Lots of Big Brother action happening on Twitter....and not from anyone from the US version! I've had conversations with AJ from Big Brother Canada and Callum from Big Brother UK!

AJ Burman - Big Brother Canada
AJ was one of the funniest houseguests on the premier season of Big Brother Canada. As with all of his fellow houseguests, they are all fans of Big Brother US, and have been from the start. So, they always have something fun to say about the show. Here were a couple of his tweets that I commented on (under Reality Bites...my reality blog).

Callum Knell - Big Brother UK
I love Callum! He was/is my favorite housemate on this 14th season of BBUK. He was recently voted out for being...too nice! He seems like a very likable and genuine person. His BFF in the house was Sam, and he was very protective of his best mate (Sam has a hearing disability).

A Follow From Rupert Boneham!

Rupert the lovable fan favorite from 3 seasons of Survivor just followed me on Twitter! Rupert is rumored to be set for his 4th appearance on Survivor in the upcoming season 27!

Rob Cesternino - Twitter

Rob Cesternino is a former Survivor contestant. He competed on Season 6: Amazon, and came in 3rd. He's a huge reality TV show fan and he has a website, blog, podcast and more in which he discusses all things Survivor, Big Brother, etc. Today he was discussing something that happened on Big Brother Canada. I made a comment on his tweet and he then Favorited it. Below is his original tweet and my comment.

A little backstory on his tweet and what his article was about, so that my comment makes more sense:

During the after hours of the show, we get to see "behind the scenes" goings-on. Often "Big Brother" talks to the houseguests. Sometimes he will tell them to "please stop talking about production."  So, since Rob was talking about production, I thought it would be funny to tell him to "stop talking about production."

Twitter Follow from Silas Gaither (Survivor)

Photo: survivorfever.net
So excited! Out of the blue, I gained a new Twitter follower: Silas Gaither from Survivor. A true Survivor fan will remember that he came in 12th (such a shame) on Season 3 Survivor: Africa in 2001. I just remember thinking he was so cute. I was really bummed when he got voted off.

It's pretty obvious that I'm a big fan, because he only has 54 followers, and I'm one of them. I'm now proud to say that I am one of the 95 people he is following...so cool!

Gary Gulman Twitter Favorite

Gary Gulman is a famous comedian who appeared on Last Comic Standing. He's so funny! Today, he posted a video clip of his performance on The Late Show with David Letterman. I commented on it, and he Favorited it!

Here is the clip:

Reply from Jun Song

Today, I got a Twitter reply from Jun Song! Jun was the winner of Big Brother 4 in 2003. Her blog article talked about where she was in her life when she entered the Big Brother house 10 years ago.

Phillip Sheppard

Today I got some Twitter love from a Survivor, the Specialist himself: Phillip Sheppard!

He tweeted:

Give's me no credit for a strategy during the challenge that "WORKED" they missed my basket as I shouted comments.

I felt bad for him, so I decided to pay him a little compliment, because I thought he did a great job in the challenge. A couple minutes later, he Favorited my tweet, he Re-Tweeted it, and then he Followed me! Wow!

Twitter Encounter With Another Hantz!

Yesterday, following an episode of Survivor, I was perusing the Twitterverse and commenting on some tweets. I commented on Russel's tweet, and apparently he liked my comment enough to retweet it! Here is the exchange:

For anyone who doesn't know, Russell is a 3-time Survivor player, and his nephew Brandon is now on his 2nd season as well.

Twitter Response from Aras!

Today I got a response on Twitter from Aras Baskauskas! I was so excited! I love him!

Who is Aras? In 2006, he was the winner of Survivor Season 12: Panama-Exile Island.

A little bit about Aras:

He is of Lithuanian decent and has both Lithuanian and American citizenship. His grandfather is Macdonald Carey, who was an actor on Days of our Lives. Aras actually appeared once on the show in 1988 as one of the children listening to Tom Horton (played by Carey) reading The Christmas story.

Since Survivor, he has been focusing on his music career. He performs under the stage name "Odd Us" (which is similar to how his first name is actually pronounced). He released his first album "The Tree and the River" in 2011.
