Diane said that her power must have gone off last night because her alarm did not go off this morning. This reminded us of the episode where Elaine had an Olympic runner staying with her. Years ago, he had overslept and missed his race because he didn't realize that there was a separate knob for the radio alarm. "Why separate knob?! Why separate knob?!"

Seinfeld References #29 & 30
Jan. 30, 2013: Seinfeld Reference #29
Who knew meetings about software could bring up so many Seinfeld references. Well, today, here's another one. We had a conference call with one of the developers. His name is Rohit Gupta. I have heard his name many times, but have never met or seen him. As he began talking, it was clear that my suspicions were correct that he did in fact have a very thick accent. His accent made him sound exactly like Babu Bhatt, who was Pakistani. Babu opened a restaurant across the street from Jerry. No one visited and Jerry tried to give him ideas for how to get customers. In a later episode, Babu is deported when he doesn't get his immigration renewal forms (they had been misdelievered to Jerry who was on vacation). He also reappears in the series finale as he is put on the stand as a character witness against Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer.
Here is just one clip of Babu (keep in mind, although the accent is similar, Rohit was not near as perky as Babu).

At lunch, Jeannie had brought in a chocolate cake that she had made. It had chocolate chips on top. I was having a hard time keeping the chips on my fork..they kept rolling off. So I decided to stab them with my fork. Jess laughed at me and said she had never seen anyone stab their chocolate chips one at a time like that. She guessed it was like eating peas one at a time. Of course this is a reference to when Jerry broke up with a woman because she ate her peas one at a time.
Jerry explaining to George why he broke up with her:
"Well, you know, we were having dinner the other night, and she's got this strangest habit. She eats her peas one at a time. You've never seen anything like it. It takes her an hour to finish them. I mean, we've had dinner other times. I've seen her eat Corn Niblets...but she scooped them."
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a clip with the above quote...all I could find was Jerry at dinner with the woman, while she's eating her peas.

This just made my day today...
Alyssa said that she had just placed an order for 12 aluminum poles for the store. Diane said "save one for us for Festivus!" We've been talking about getting one for a couple of years :)

A Twitter Encounter With John Lehr

That leads me to the reason for this post. I found the comedian, John Lehr, whom I loved in the brief show 10 Items Or Less. The entire show was improv, which to me seems absolutely remarkable. Soon after following him, I got a follow request from him! My first celebrity follow request! How cool! For someone like my friend Heather, that type of thing seems to be a fairly regular occurrence, but for me it is very rare!

My friend Heather posted on Facebook that, on a dare, she went through the line at Chipotle, ordering like in the Soup Nazi episode (including the sidestep). Of course, this by itself is funny enough. But what's strange is that the very next day, there was a photo (see below) posted by Seinfeld's Facebook page promoting that episode.

Music Ironicness: Josh Kelley - Two Cups Of Coffee
Today, Shonda was saying that she really needed some coffee. Just after she said that, the song that was playing on my Google Play random playlist was Josh Kelley's "Two Cups of Coffee". So weird!

Diane and I were talking about how today was the perfect kind of cold day for something warm to eat. She had only brought a couple small things for lunch and was still hungry. I said that soup sounded good. Of course, she said "soup is not a meal!". And I of course, replied "if you crumble crackers in it...'crackers in a bowl, now that could be considered a meal.'"
This is a reference to when Kenny Banya gave Jerry an Armani suit. In return, he convinced Jerry to buy him a meal. When they were at the restaurant, Banya decided to just get soup and then complained that Jerry didn't buy him a meal. Jerry and Elaine then discussed when soup was considered a meal. Elaine said that if you crumble crackers in it, "crackers in a bowl, that could be considered a meal." (Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video clip that showed Elaine and Jerry's conversation. The clip below just shows the Banya parts.

Amy is going to be a grandma, and we were discussing what she would want her grandchild to call her. We all like "Nana". We then needed to come up with something for her husband. I suggested "Papa" first, and I was going to say "Poppy", but Shonda beat me to it. Whenever I hear "Poppie", I always think of Poppie from Seinfeld....as in "Poppie peed on my sofa!"

In our software meeting today, there was discussion about financial info and how it would come through in the new software. Apparently, if done a certain way, there would be some amounts that would not be balanced and the difference would always stay on the account. A fellow Seinfeld lover commented "Can't you just write it off? I don't know what that means, but that's what they do. They just write it off." I could hardly contain my laughter. I knew EXACTLY what she was referring to.
The scene below is Kramer explaining to Jerry what his plans were to get him some money for his broken stereo. He planned to break the stereo and claim it was damaged in shipping. They would then just "write it off."

In my 3 hour software meeting today, we had a long discussion that included a lot of "importing" and "exporting" talk. This reminded me of George's story to Susan about Elaine's fake boyfriend who was an importer/exporter. I wish I could have found a video for this one :(
