My Aladdin Lamp Collection: Model B Alacite Tall Lincoln Drape (1941-1949)

Introducing the 35th vintage lamp in my collection...

Representing the Model B Tall Lincoln Drapes:
Alacite (B75)

The Alacite version of the Tall Lincoln Drapes is one of the most popular versions of the Tall Lincoln Drape, as it was produced for nearly 10 years, from 1941-1949. The Clear, Cobalt, and Ruby were each only produced for 1 year and are rarer and have a much higher value than the Alacite version. The Alacite and Cobalt each featured an alternate foot design in addition to just the plain circle design, which was the scallop. Lamps with the scallop design are rare and considered valuable and desirable by collectors. The scallop design was never reproduced, so you can be sure lamps featuring that design are originals.

My New Lamp
I was not looking to add this particular lamp to my collection, but it found its way there anyway! When I started collecting, I decided to limit myself to just one lamp per style. I went for the rare and beautiful cobalt with the scalloped foot, so I wasn't planning to add another. But, sometimes, you get lucky! At the Aladdin Wooster Meet, I had already purchased a Model 8 earlier in the day, when it was time for the raffle. Lucky me, I walked away the winner of the Alacite Tall Lincoln Drape (minus a B burner)! Not too shabby!

My Aladdin Lamp Collection: Model 8 Brass Table Lamp (1919-1829)

Introducing the 34th vintage lamp in my collection...

Representing Model 8
Brass Table Lamp (801)

The Model 8 lamp was produced from 1919-1920. It only came in one design and a couple of different styles, much like its predecessor, Model 7. Visibly to the untrained eye, the Model 7 and Model 8 are identical. However, the Model 8 is slightly shorter than the Model 8. The difference appears to come from the chime in the middle of the bowl to the top. This is only really noticeable when they are side by side. The biggest difference, which can be easily identified without a side-by-side comparison, is the location of the fill cap. On the Model 8, it is up near the collar in the design portion of the bowl, and on the Model 7, it is lower near the chime, in the smooth part of the bowl.

My New Lamp
I have been looking for a Model 8 for quite some time. It wasn't high on my list when I started collecting; however, now that I have added so many lamps to my collection, I'm trying to find the models that I am missing. Prior to getting this lamp, I was missing 3 models: 3, 8, and 10. I felt like I was getting close to finding an 8 on eBay, as there have been quite a few posted recently. The only problem was that they were all missing or incorrect parts, were made electric, or were in really poor shape. Every single one of them had something wrong with them.

I knew there was a good chance that I would be able to find one at either the Wooster Aladdin Meet or at the Gathering. I was right! I came across this beautiful lamp that was being sold by one of our Aladdin Dealers, The Wooden Shoe, owned by the Van Eses. She assured me it had all the parts; however, a bystander asked if it had the 2-piece wick carrier. I hadn't even thought to check when she said it was complete. We disassembled, and unfortunately, it did not. It has a later wick raiser, often used as a replacement because the 2-piece wick carriers are very hard to find. I decided to get it anyway because it had everything else, including a Model 8 flame spreader, which many do not. It also came with a 3-line chimney, which I didn't have yet. The price was good, despite the incorrect wick carrier and the fact that it came with a chimney.

Excited to show Jenni my purchase, I went back to our table. Several minutes later, she came over and handed me $20 back. She didn't say anything, and I told her it wasn't necessary, but she insisted. I'm guessing that after talking to her husband, they decided to give some money back because of the wick carrier. Either that or she realized I was with Crownplace and decided to give me a discount. Either way, it was very nice of her!

My Aladdin Lamp Collection: Model 21c Low Boy (1963-1969)

Introducing the 33rd vintage lamp in my collection...

Representing Model 21c
Low Boy (B-140)

The Model 21c burner was produced from 1963-1969. The burners were imported from England (Aladdin UK) and sold in America as the successor to the Nashville C burner. Similar to the Model C, the burners were used on various styles of cheaper aluminum fonts.

My New Lamp
Much like my Model C aluminum lamp, this lamp isn't included on any favorite lists when it comes to my collection, however, it helps to complete my collection. My goal since I started collecting was to have 1 of every model, so, I can now check this one off my list. This is one of only a couple lamps in my collection that I got the font and burner from different places. In order to find good quality and a decent price, I ended up purchasing them separately. Generally, I like to buy the lamp and burner together to have a better likelihood that they were originally paired together.

My Aladdin Lamp Collection: Model C Watchman (1955-1963)

Introducing the 32nd vintage lamp in my collection...

Representing Model C
Watchman Font Lamp (B-165)

The Model C burner was produced from 1955-1963. The Model C burner followed the very successful Model B. The reason for the change was that all of the tooling for the Model B burner was lost in a flood. The Model C was designed rather quickly to have something to sell with lamps and was cheap to produce. Because of the quick and cheap production, the Model C is arguably the worst burner Aladdin ever produced. The lamps sold with these burners were also cheap and were made of aluminum (there are just a couple lamps not made of aluminum that were sold with Model C burners).

My New Lamp
I will be honest in saying that this lamp would not be a favorite of mine. I really only wanted it for my collection just to have a Model C. It fills a hole in the timeline and gives me a Model C burner for reference.

My New Lamp
I've been looking to add this lamp to my collection for quite some time. It is very unique in that it is made of porcelain and not glass or metal. The design itself is so unique and beautiful. I don't care for the brown version so much, but the grey is gorgeous. When I would come across this lamp on eBay they were priced a lot higher than I thought they should be or they were the brown version, so I just couldn't pull the trigger. I haven't seen any at the Gatherings either. It's hard to tell what the value should be because the last price guide is so old. Perhaps, they are more valuable right now than what I think.

I finally came across a couple listings for the grey version. The first one I saw was about twice what the price guide said the value was. I would have passed, but after adding it to my Watch List, I got a discount notice from the seller. Even though it was still too much, it was more reasonable and I thought I might have to settle for it because I was not seeing them any cheaper. I was going to justify it because it was New In Box, so it had all the parts and was never used. That would have been neat. I almost pulled the trigger, but I was going to be going to Florida soon and it would arrive while I was gone. I didn't want it to be sitting outside for days, so I decided I would wait until I got back, and if it was still there and could still get the discounted price, I would go for it. Well, I got back and was close to ordering it when I came across another listing! This one was about half of what the new one was listed at. It also looked like it hadn't been used, but didn't have the box or a chimney. Oh well, even though the price was still a little too high, it was the best I'd seen, so I didn't want to let it get away. I'm glad I didn't wait, and I'm so happy to add this one to my collection!
